Nimes, France – The Home of Wondrous Roman Remains

Nimes, a city in the south of France with a 2005 population of 145,000, is a popular tourist destination known for its exceptional Roman remains. It is named for a natural spring, and in fact the spring still exists surrounded now by the elegant 18th century Jardins de la Fountaine (gardens of the fountain). The Roman relics in Nimes are truly remarkable. The elliptical Roman amphitheater was constructed in the first or second century A.D., and is so well preserved that it is still used today as a bullfighting ring and concert arena. Another amazing structure is the Maison Carree, a small Roman temple dedicated to sons of Agrippa circa 19 BC. It is equally well preserved and to this day you can go inside and watch a short film about the history of Nimes. Another site to see in Nimes is the Pont Du Gard, a Roman aqueduct also built by Agrippa. The old town is worth a visit, as there are plenty of interesting narrow winding streets and squares interspersed around the main boulevards. The medieval Cathedral building is partly Romanesque and partly Gothic. If you visit the Cathedral, be sure to take note of the numerous fine …

Five Steps to Easy Time Management

Time management is less about time and more about attention. Five elements dictate how well we cope with time: stress, energy, focus, consistency, and patience. When we are stressed about something, we will always perform poorly. We rush through things that deserve our attention and we waste a lot of time trying to fix our mistakes. We also produce poor quality work that lowers our credibility, and, over time, this can even ruin our reputation. Alternatively, when we are calm, centered, and in control, we do high quality work in much less time. When we are energetic, we can do amazing amounts of work. Unfortunately, we often tend to work when we are exhausted and keep enervating ourselves even more. Conversely, by taking proper care of ourselves, eating six small meals a day, exercising at least 3 times a week, and getting enough sleep at the end of the day, we can recuperate from the rigors of the day. When we are focused we can make amazing progress in the work that we do. The essential thing is to decide what to focus on, where to focus, and when to focus. What to focus on depends on what is most …

No More Beating Yourself Up – What to Really Say When You Talk to Yourself!

It would be east to say that talking to yourself is automatic, and that you really have no control over your thoughts.  As a matter of fact, there is even a psychological term for this: ANTS – automatic negative thoughts.  However, automatic does not mean that you are doomed to be caught in the same cycle forever.  There are ways to overcome this, and one of the best ways is to learn a new way of talking to yourself.  I’ve included a 3 step process that’s fast and easy.  It’s worked wonders with my clients. When a negative thought comes up, picture a big red stop sign right in front of you, hold up your hand (if it’s not too obvious) and say STOP!  When you do this you interrupt your nervous system, which is the part that sends and receives messages to your brain.  You are also doing this with emotion, and that uses one of the oldest parts of the brain.  Emotion always overrides logic, you know this is true by how you act when something upsetting, or very surprising happens.  When you do this over and over and over again, you are priming yourself for something different to …

However, even though the team claimed victory, Barça didn’t exhibit a level of play appropriate to a champion; with a slow pace and simple plays the players just managed to keep control of the ball and the game. Sporting entered the game with five players missing due to injury, but in the first ten minutes of the game, the lack seemed not to matter. Diego Castro almost gave his team the lead, but his shot went over the bar. The score first opened less than 20 minutes into the game, and the point did not belong to Sporting. Barça midfielder Seydou Keita launched a shot at minute 18 and Bojan Krkic was able to head the ball, sending it straight to the bottom of Juan Pablo Colinas’ net. Getting A Face Lift? It’s Time To Quit Smoking

There are a million reasons why quitting smoking can benefit your health. There’s no need to list them all-if you’re a smoker, you’ve likely heard the list more times than you can count. However, if you’re a smoker and you’re planning to get a face lift, there’s something else you should know. Cigarettes and the nicotine delivered through them restricts blood vessels. That means your organs don’t get all the blood that they should (which is just one of the reasons why smoking is hazardous to your health). Because of this, it can greatly interfere with the healing process after a cosmetic operation. Why is it so important to quit smoking before a face lift? Because of the decreased blood flow due to the habit, approximately 10 percent of smokers will experience some degree of necrosis along the incision following the procedure. What is necrosis? Well, it is nothing less than the death of the skin tissue. It dies because it does not receive the oxygen it needs from the blood when it is undergoing the healing process. This can cause the incision sites to redden and then turn completely black. If you’ve ever seen the results of a brown …
